Step-by-step instructions for effective nasal rinsing

• Wash your hands before starting.
• Fill the clean bottle with the correct amount of distilled, micro-filtered (0.2 micron), commercially bottled, or previously boiled and cooled water. Avoid using tap or faucet water unless it has been boiled for at least five minutes and cooled to lukewarm or body temperature.
• Do not use plain water for rinsing. Always use NeilMed Sinus Rinse packets as directed. These packets contain USP grade sodium chloride and sodium bicarbonate for safe and comfortable rinsing.
• To prepare, cut open a Sinus Rinse packet and pour it into the bottle. Secure the cap and tube tightly. Place a finger over the tip of the cap and shake gently until the mixture dissolves.
• Stand over a sink, bend forward, and tilt your head down. Keep your mouth open and breathe normally. Place the cap snugly against one nostril and gently squeeze the bottle until the solution drains from the opposite nostril. Use at least 1/4 to 1/2 of the bottle (60 mL to 120 mL or 2 to 4 fl oz) for a thorough rinse. Do not swallow the solution.
• Blow your nose gently without pinching it completely. If comfortable, sniff in gently to clear any remaining solution from the back of your nasal passage. Spit out any solution that reaches your throat. Blow your nose again while tilting your head forward and to the opposite side.
• Repeat the rinsing and clearing steps for the other nostril.
